1) Arrive early and play with the settings in the demo car for an hour. 2) Pick it up in daylight so you can do a real visual inspection. 3) Bring this Checklist and a partner to help check the car out before accepting delivery. 4) Take your time. Don't feel rushed. 5) Ask questions about anything you don't understand. Has the Tesla app installed on your smartphone prior to arrival for delivery?

Bring your driver’s license.

If your car will be registered to more than one person, each person on the registration needs to be at the delivery appointment to sign the final documents.

Bring written or digital proof of your down payment having been made and the final payment details or financing details.

If you are financing your car, make sure your loan has been funded before you arrive to take delivery and that you have some kind of proof you can provide to Tesla should they ask about it.

Bring a printed insurance card or other proof of insurance that shows your Model 3 is insured.

Since the delivery area where you will inspect your Model 3 may be dark, bring a flashlight.

Verify pre-delivery vehicle records.

Check for the correct full name and address on your paperwork.

Check the car's display screen for any information that does not match the car (found by tapping the Tesla "T").

Verify that the car's Monroney record matches your configuration.

Confirm the vehicle’s VIN matches your paperwork.

Correct color & options. Ask your Delivery Specialist to double-check ‘Tesla’ license plate frame & Front license plate mount.

Universal Mobile Connector (UMC) cable with the 3 included standard adapters (NEMA 5-15, 14-50, J1772), and the carry bag w/Velcro.

The latest software version installed.

Owner’s manual in the glovebox.

All accessories (tow hook, microfiber cloth, HUD), and any extras you opted for.

If you waited outside a Store for your reservation, make sure you get your diecast copy of the car (color won't match).

Surfaces (and underside) are free of scuffs, marks, abrasions, or smudges.

Paint is not scratched or “folded”.

All panels are aligned & flush, no huge gaps or misalignments (crooked hood)

1) Frunk gap/sag makes sure it’s no more than 4mm. 2) Front and rear lights are flush with hood/trunk/panels. 3) Glass roof panels are aligned and show no sign of potential leaks.

Front/Rear lights are free of condensation.

Tow hook eye comes off easily (ask for a demonstration, don't break it).

Wheels & Underside free of scrapes from truck unloading/loading.

Doors, hood, trunk all open properly.

Doors and trunk/frunk close with a normal amount of force, i.e. no slamming required.

Accessories under the frunk mat are present.

Inspect wheel rims for damage.

Inspect all glass for signs of distortion or cracks.

Test driver and passenger door emergency release.

Check all 4 windows to ensure they open and close properly.

Test opening and closing of trunk and frunk.

Check paint in areas that are not visible when frunk and trunk are closed. Some deliveries have reported incomplete body painting in hidden areas.

Check for the towing eye under the frunk mat

Depending on state requirement, check for front license plate bracket.

Inspect interior seat upholstery, door surfaces, dash, headliner and carpets (including passenger compartment, frunk & trunk).

Check left & right clothing hook operation.

Check all seat belts for proper operation.

Check rear seats for proper fold-down operation.

Test sound system to ensure all speakers are working, no audio “clipping”.

1) 2 tweeter speakers on the doors (by the rearview mirrors). 2) 2 mid-range speakers above in the front. 3) bass speakers on the bottom of the front doors. 4) 2 mid speakers on the back doors. 5) 2 mid speakers on the top of the trunk subwoofer inside the trunk, right side.

Test steering wheel position controls to ensure proper operation.

Press the center of the steering wheel to make sure the car’s horn works.

Test windshield wipers.

Test rear view camera.

Check side mirrors for proper operation of folding and position adjustment.

Check the windshield and windows for ripples in the glass.

All floor mats are present.

Seat tears or smudges.

The seat material is not bunched or folded.

Headliner fingerprints or marks.

Suction cup and order/inventory burn-in on the dash.

Watch for any error messages on the display screen.

All windows go up/down without noise or issues, no black “goop”

Make sure AC/Heat works at full power without strange noises.

All interior button functionality works, especially dome lights & emergency.

Both front door emergency handles work.

Both front seats don’t squeak when moving (check all directions of motion) OR folding (for rear).

The front console has both phone cables.

All 4 USB outlets & 12 volt DC receptacle have power.

Test rear view camera.

Check side mirrors for proper operation of folding and position adjustment.

Surfaces (and underside) are free of scuffs, marks, abrasions, or smudges.

Check the windshield and windows for ripples in the glass.

Interior liner is properly sealed & not “hanging”.

Watch for any error messages on the display screen.

All interior button functionality works, especially dome lights & emergency.

Music streaming & phone streaming work, radio reception is good.

Voice control works.

The microphone picks up good audio (call a friend with the Model 3 dialer).

All 4 valve stem covers on tires.

Both key cards work on the B-pillar.

Attempt to pair your smartphone to your car on Bluetooth.

Phone Bluetooth connectivity as primary key works.

All phone app functions work (unlocking, preconditioning, etc).

Test both key cards to ensure they work with your car.

Keep one key card on your person in case the phone app does not operate properly.

All front & rear lights work (emergency, turn signals, brakes, hi-beams/fog, up/down adjustment from touch screen).

Side mirrors make minimal noise when shifting from state to state.

The charge port door sits flush and moves freely, opens consistently.

Each of the Mobile Connector adapters charges, latch and unlatch without problems.

Make sure both AC and DC plugs work (test at a supercharger on-site).

Check the charge port door for proper operation.

Check the charge port indicator light.

Ensure vehicle will accept a charge.

Check mobile charging kit. Test it to ensure it works.

Test all lights (see details in description).

Ask your delivery specialist to make sure that your car is marked as DELIVERED in Tesla’s network.

There have been reports of cars being delivered and the phone app doesn’t allow log in the following day. This is due to the oversight of the car not being identified as having been delivered in Tesla’s system.

Touch the Tesla T at the top of the screen to bring up the About Your Tesla window.

Tap the unicorn drawing to access the Sketch Pad. Leave the Sketch Pad up for a minute to make sure there are no phantom touches happening on the display.

Listen for any unusual sounds coming from vehicle exterior or interior.

Some sounds may seem unusual at first exposure. It is normal to hear fans and relays that operate at times depending on the car’s situation.

If you plan to use a USB stick containing music, plug the USB stick into one of the front USB ports in the console front compartment to determine if the car will properly read the data.

Make sure you have copies of all paperwork necessary for good documentation of your purchase, including a copy of your signed purchase agreement.

If your delivery specialist suggests that you can get your documents electronically on your Tesla account, ask for paper copies you can take with you anyway. Having physical copies with you insures you will get them.

Before driving away, ask a Tesla rep:

1) How to charge / work a supercharger / open the charge flap. 2) Make sure correct closing technique for frunk is demonstrated. 3) Autopilot usage. 4) How to find superchargers / other chargers. 5) How to open / move between apps on the display. 6) Pair your phone and connect / reconnect Bluetooth. 7) How to use Satellite Radio, Podcasts, and Spotify. 8) Steering wheel buttons / how to change what each do. 9) How to do a full reset of the main screen. 10) How to adjust seating, save profiles, have mirrors drop / not drop when reversing. 11) Review all settings pages. 12) Use of the Android or iPhone apps. 13) Where to find roadside assistance info from the main screen. 14) Your local service center support number.

After your first drive:

1) Download Plugshare to find chargers. 2) Download Plugshare to find chargers. 3) Go and try a supercharger (also a good destination for your first drive) 4) Consider having the paint protected with ceramic paint protection, which will help prevent scratches, stone chips, etc. 5) Consider alloy wheel insurance or protection. 6) Learn how to properly wash your car. 7) Be aware the Model 3 does not come with a spare tire. 8) When your registration arrives, check that it's the correct model listed (AWD/SR+/etc.), as it could affect selling your car in the future, insurance coverage, etc. 9) Respond to the surveys that Tesla periodically sends. This the best way that you can directly impact improvements to the car and company.

Must-have Accessories after a year and a half of Model 3 ownership!

1) All-weather floor mats OEM (my recommendation), aftermarket. Keep these in your car year-round. It will help preserve the new car smell and is easy to keep clean. 2) Wireless charging pad OEM, aftermarket. 3) A fast-write USB stick for Sentry and dashcam footage. One with a built-in lightning port to easily review footage on your iPhone. 4) A vinyl wrap for the center console. The factory console is piano black, which is impossible not to scratch. Vinyl wraps are easy to install and (arguably) look better than stock.
